Illegal Immigration Bill Protesters

Large protests have been staged across the country in response to the bill that deals with illegal immigration. Much of the liberal media was careful not to show, or downplayed, all the people waving the Mexican flag at these protests; the media heads do not want to upset American citizens since most of the media are sympathetic to illegal immigration.
With signs that read “Brown Power”, “Viva La Mexico” and “Chicano Power”, I have my doubts about their allegiance to this country and desire to assimilate. Many of their signs smack of racism, yet they have the nerve to call Americans racists who have a genuine concern for the impact of illegal immigration. The protestors do not even realize that the bill that just passed the Senate is even more generous than President Bush’s initial program.
I wonder what would happen if a bunch of Americans marched down in Mexico waving the American flag and held signs that read “white power”? It doesn’t make much sense if you are trying to convince people in America that you love this country and want to work and live here to wave the flag of another country.
This is one of the symptoms of the disease of multiculturalism - not encouraging assimilation. Here you have these people shouting slogans praising Mexico and denouncing America, the country they want to stay in oddly enough. Multiculturalism fosters separatism and promotes friction between the host country and group that has isolated itself culturally, but that’s another topic.
Doesn’t it beg the question of what’s wrong with their country of origin? And if there is something wrong, then why isn’t anything being done to change those countries? Why don’t they stage large protests in Mexico for instance, demanding all sorts of reforms or changes to that country in order to generate more economic opportunities?
Why are so many of these protesters high school students who walked out of class? Is it because they have a thorough understanding about the issue of illegal immigration, or are they simply brainwashed youth marching to the indoctrination of their socialist teachers?
More and more illegal immigrants primarily from Mexico are going on the public dole than past generations, committing more crimes, sending their children to public schools at tax-payer expense, for college they can apply for in-state tuition where out of state citizens have to pay more, many hospitals near the borders have closed down because they cannot afford to treat people for free, and other social services are going broke. Yes, many illegals have jobs and are not criminals, but as a whole they take more out of the system then they put in, which is a major reason they come here.
President Bush is in favor of a so-called “guest worker” program, which is a type of amnesty – never mind the word ‘guest’ implies you were invited in. So if you ever find a total stranger in your house that snuck in without your permission, remember, he or she is a “guest”.
Yes, there would be a fine or other minor punishment possibly, but basically at its core it’s an amnesty for illegals. When he says they do work that Americans won’t do, what kind of work are we talking about? It seems like it’s really a matter of employers choosing to pay the illegal less money, rather than pay the legal person more. Heck, if you pay me $20/hour, I’ll pick grapes.
Congress should just call it amnesty and admit this country has screwed up its immigration policy for decades. Aside from dealing with those already here, the government needs to enforce immigration laws for a change, and stop pandering to the lobbyists in business that want cheap labor.
Some things which could be done include: Secure the borders, cut the majority of welfare benefits (over time), punish employers that hire illegal aliens and deport illegal aliens found in the country after the amnesty period, even if they have anchor-babies. That might be one approach. I’m sure there are others.
Something needs to be done since our border security is tied to national security (something that rarely gets mentioned in the debate), but it looks like the bill the Senate just approved does not do enough and will encourage more illegal immigration. Dealing with those already here is one thing, but what do you do for the future?

Out of curiosity, what sort of "assimilation" are you talking about? Just accepting American values of freedom and individual rights? Or do you want them to change their tastes in music and sports to be considered American?
(Hey Adam – thanks for stopping by)……Yes, I would also like immigrants to get the same haircut as mine and eat only hamburgers...don’t by silly, I’m not suggesting immigrants totally abandon their native culture 100%. But is it too much to ask to learn to speak fluent, or nearly fluent, English? Is it too much to ask to make English your primary spoken language? Or to celebrate American traditions and holidays, and wave our flag not some other country's flag?
Assimilation basically means you accept and adopt the dominant culture, and yes that includes music and foods, sports, and belief in the principles and values upon which this country was founded, and you identify yourself as an American first and foremost.
Here’s a personal example of assimilation:
One of my best friends growing up on the same street I lived on as a kid was (and presumably still is) of Mexican heritage. But when his family moved (legally) to America, they wanted to become Americans. In other words, they gave their children American names, they spoke English 99% of the time, they listened to music sung in English, they celebrated the 4th of July, they flew the American flag on their flag pole, etc.
Here is what they did NOT do – burn the American flag and wave the Mexican flag, speak Spanish 99.9% of time, listen to music sung in Spanish, celebrate Mexican holidays, give their children Chicano names and associate themselves exclusively with other Mexicans.
Do you see the difference?
if you can get $20 i'll pick grapes and clean toilets too.
"Assimilation basically means you accept and adopt the dominant culture, and yes that includes music and foods, sports"
music food sports? stop eating tacos? we have to eat the same foods, listen to the same music, and watch the same sports? who picks my man? surely you are joking. when are we closing the chinese and italian resturaunts? and i always hated soccer anyway.
"and belief in the principles and values upon which this country was founded,"
let me see, we started this country with women having the right to reproduce, and that right only, and blacks having the right to be slaves. blacks stayed in that loop until after the civil war, well over a hundred years and women did not get the right to vote until the turn of the last century. not only were they wonderful values, but lasting ones too.
i skipped over religion for two reasons...
1)a bunch of founding fathers were athiests.
2)we sorta stoned the mormons, and burned their houses because we did not like their views. that by the way, is how they got to utah.
i love the preamble too because i am male, and white. for better or worse, the country will be mostly latino in about twenty years, so i am glad you support the dominant language, as you will be bi-linguil, which will increse your job opportunities.
did i like the protests? no, and on top of it, i wondered why they are looking for jobs here when all ours jobs went to mexico and china. do i like them waving another flag? no. they were however non violent. we claim to be supportive of free speech here, at least until what is being said annoys us.
as i really like you, i will gently suggest you really re-read your own post. you may have some things in common with the protesters.
donde esta la lavados?
Ohhh Rev...you funny guy...I re-read it and found it actually quite tame and non-threatening.
You are not being fair Rev – the dominant culture includes those items, but does not mean exclusively those items, as I never said that, it was just examples of ways to integrate, not the only.
All those things you mentioned are NOT the principles this country was founded on – yes slavery existed, but all men created equal was not enforced until later. A woman not having the right to vote is not a valid criticism for the same reasons. We can find things to pick on with our history as no country is perfect, but the values and principles that I speak of are (in no particular order): free enterprise, individual rights, personal responsibility, family values, limited government, et al.
Don’t confuse America’s traditional values with what actually happens; unfortunately sometimes they are not the same. But we don’t abandon those values; we work to put them into practice, which we did. If perfection is the condition necessary to have any value or belief, then you will give up on any and all values, because nothing man does will ever be 100% perfect.
“1)a bunch of founding fathers were athiests.”
A few were, but it did not stop them from making numerous references to God or Creator throughout many of the founding documents.
“we claim to be supportive of free speech here, at least until what is being said annoys us.”
Oh I never said they didn’t have a right to say or wave whatever, but I also have a right to criticize it.
Nope, no similarities with the protestors I can find – just checked the flagpole, it’s still the U.S. flag…car horn doesn’t play la cucaracha…..I haven’t entered another country illegally and started making demands….oh crap, taco shells in the kitchen, damn! You got me. Well, I still like you too Rev, so feel free to disagree – it makes things more interesting.
"donde esta la lavados?" Hey, is that a bad word?? Watch your language!
They can protest all they want. The democrats and republicans are to busy debating to pass any law. I agree with your comments that if they really wanted to be Americans they wouldn't be waving Mexican flags or yelling "Viva Mexico". I personally, when I lived in, Arizona have seen Hospitals closed because the illegale aliens fle the country never paying and gangs of Hispanics spray painting and commiting drive bys among other things. They really need to fix their own country rather then coming to ours. I think the American people as a whole fill that something needs to be done. Lets just hope the Democrats and the Republicans stop fighting and do the American peoples role.
If they wish to fly the flag of Mexico while screeching human rights in the USA, I say ship them back to Mexico and let them screech human rights there.
There is a widespread perception that illegal immigrants – are decent, hardworking people and we should give them a break. Many illegal's no doubt view themselves this way.
They are wrong. Every person who walks across the U.S. border in an attempt to gain the benefits of U.S. residency or citizenship without paying the price of legal entry is a thief. He has stolen the most valuable commodity that any of us possess – our birthright and identity as American citizens.
Not only has the illegal stolen the identity of native-born Americans, he has stolen the good name of the legal immigrants who daily help to build this nation in the tradition of all Americans – for we are all immigrants. The difference is that whether our families immigrated while standing on the deck of the Mayflower, or by trudging past immigration officers on Ellis Island – our families paid the price being asked of those who wanted to become Americans.
Illegals chose not to pay that price. Instead, they saw U.S. citizenship sitting on the shelf, tucked it underneath their coat, and walked out the door with it. Their thievery must be especially poignant to those who have invested their hopes, dreams, sweat and tears to pay for this great prize.
An illegal's thievery does not end with the stolen identity of American citizenship. For many, that is just the beginning. Their bogus citizenship opens the doors to publicly funded assistance for those in need, publicly funded education for their children, up to and including state colleges and universities. It provides publicly funded health care for those unable to pay, and finally publicly funded retirement and Medicare for the aged. Not a bad haul for a thief who never paid a dime for his stolen identity.
Those who support this thievery – often under the guise of compassion – are no better than the thieves themselves. By aiding and abetting the thieves, these misguided citizens are stealing from their countrymen who "work hard and play by the rules." If they are public officials, then they have violated their sacred oath to protect our nation (20 percent of all federal prisoners are illegals), and their promise to us to "see that the laws be faithfully executed" was a lie. If they are school administrators struggling with difficult budgets, they are stealing from taxpayers, families and the children of lawful citizens – and giving the proceeds to thieves. If they are employers, they are stealing from their workers – who would receive higher pay and benefits for their work – had their birthright as an American not been stolen from them.
As the well-organized citizenship demonstrations have shown, illegal immigrants already feel entitled to have lawful American citizens accommodate their thievery. Unlike those who worked for the prize, illegal's have no interest in assimilation – only the goodies that their stolen American identity can provide.
now they will walk on our streets and evryone turn around and does not look at the crimals-They are going to just let them walk right in and take everything from us.
It seems the question becomes one of defining what it means to be American. Italian, Irish, Morroccan, Egyptian, Japanese and yes Mexicans are all Americans and have several generations behind them to solidfy their pedigree.
So our choices all differ, our histories all differ, the one thing that makes us a country unique in the world is the common grounds of Justice, Law and Openness. So they are free to openly complain and fly a foreign flag, they are also inviting the kind of derision and rejection that are currently experiencing. They want social justice, then they have to adhere to the idea of social justice embodied in our laws. By definition an illegal alien has not adhered to our laws or our ideas of justice and so is not an American. If they are illegal ship them out of the country, if they want to return legally there is a well defined process to do that. So adhering to our laws, customs and social expectations of justice would show their true desire to be americans.
They can listen to whatever they, speak whatever language they want and enjoy tacos or pad thai noodles to their hearts content but when it comes to being american - act like one!
